The First Generation Electronic Swiss Army Knife
Introduction
The Victorinox Timekeeper Alarm is one of the earliest Swiss Army Knives to integrate an electronic module directly into the scales.
Built on the Tinker architecture, the knife combines the traditional Phillips-based toolset with a digital LCD clock featuring alarm and timer functions.
Appearing at the beginning of the electronic Swiss Army Knife era, the Timekeeper Alarm represents one of Victorinox’s first attempts to integrate electronic functionality into the classic 91 mm platform, paving the way for later models such as the Voyager.
I. Technical Overview

The Timekeeper Alarm is based on the 91 mm Tinker configuration.
Main Tools
Large blade
Small blade
Can opener + small screwdriver
Bottle opener + large screwdriver + wire stripper
Back Layer Tools
Phillips screwdriver
Reamer / awl
Scale Tools
LCD digital clock module
(alarm and timer functions)
Toothpick
Keyring
II. The Digital Clock Module
The defining feature of the Timekeeper Alarm is the LCD clock integrated into the front scale.
The module provides several functions:
-
digital time display
- alarm

- timer

It is powered by a 3 V lithium battery, typically a CR1225 cell.
This early electronic module would later be used again on the Voyager, which expanded the concept while adopting the Climber architecture with scissors.
III. Early Electronic Scale Design
Like other Victorinox knives equipped with electronic scales, the standard tweezers slot is absent, as the internal space is required for the electronic module and battery.

Later electronic Victorinox models would introduce redesigned scales restoring some traditional tools, including:
- a rear slot for a smaller tweezers
- the ballpoint pen
The Timekeeper Alarm belongs to the earlier generation of electronic scales and does not include these additional tool slots.
IV. Liner Construction
Another distinctive feature can be observed beneath the electronic scale.
The liner under the module differs from later electronic Victorinox knives: it does not include the raised bump under the control button that appears on subsequent designs, instead it has a large circular hole.

Timekeeper Alarm liner with hole under the control button

Voyager / Altimeter / Traveller liner with support bump under the control button and additional round hole to fit the Barometric sensor of the Altimeter and then Traveller
This structural difference suggests that the Timekeeper Alarm belongs to the very first generation of Victorinox electronic scale construction.
Collector Perspective and Significance
The Timekeeper Alarm stands out for several reasons:
- one of the earliest Victorinox electronic models
- unique Tinker-based architecture
- early electronic scale construction
- distinctive liner design
These characteristics make it an important model for collectors interested in the technological evolution of the AVT / Electronic scales Swiss Army Knife.

Conclusion
The Victorinox Timekeeper Alarm marks the beginning of Victorinox’s exploration of electronic functionality within the Swiss Army Knife.
By integrating a digital clock directly into the scales of a Tinker-based knife, Victorinox created a distinctive hybrid between traditional mechanical tools and emerging electronic technology.
