II. The First Heavyweight Champion
The XXLT marked a turning point in the evolution of the SwissChamp family.
Rather than being designed as the ultimate everyday carry, it was conceived to demonstrate how far the 91 mm platform could be pushed by combining every mechanical tool available into a single knife.
Its defining feature was the integration of the piezoelectric butane lighter, introduced the same year on the SwissFlame and CampFlame. Combined with the complete SwissChamp XLT toolset and several additional specialist tools, the XXLT became the largest and most ambitious Victorinox production model ever released up to that point.
More than a practical pocket knife, it was designed as a display piece, showcasing the full capabilities of the 91 mm platform and Victorinox's ability to integrate an unprecedented number of functions into a single Swiss Army Knife.
III. The End of the Lighter Era
The SwissChamp XXLT owes its existence to one component: the integrated butane lighter🔥
Introduced in 2002, the lighter represented Victorinox's final major mechanical innovation for the 91 mm platform and allowed the company to create its first true heavyweight flagship.
When the lighter was discontinued, the XXLT disappeared with it. Rather than redesigning the knife around an obsolete component, Victorinox introduced the SwissChamp XAVT in 2006.
